Membership Information

  1. Membership is limited to residents of Biddeford Pool. This is defined as those properties lying on the Biddeford Pool peninsula, and properties on the Mile Stretch northeast of Bridge Road and northeast of the beach parking area at the end of Bridge Road.

  2. There are two categories of membership: Voting Members and Associate Members. Voting Members are elected by existing Voting Members and have the sole power of voting in the affairs of the Club. Voting Members must maintain a Full Season Family Membership at all times.

Associate Members have three sub-categories of membership:

    1. Junior Members are 40 years of age or younger as of January 1 of the current year. The age of the older spouse determines the eligibility of a married couple.

    2. Associate Members are 41 years of age or older as of January 1. The age of the older spouse determines the eligibility of a married couple.

    3. Senior Social Members are 70 years of age and older as of January 1 of the current year. The age of the younger spouse determines the eligibility of a married couple. These members may attend social events and play croquet, but this membership does NOT include golf or tennis privileges. This dues category is available for individuals or couples at the same rate.

  3. A Family Membership covers the member and spouse, and both children and grandchildren age 25 or younger as of January 1 of the current year when they reside in the member’s house. Non-member children and grandchildren over age 25, visiting in the member’s house, are considered guests and must abide by the guest policies and pay guest fees. Parents and siblings of members are required to pay guest fees.

  4. An Individual Membership covers the individual only. If other family members plan to attend Club functions, the member is expected to take out a Family Membership. A Family Membership is also required for a household with either children or grandchildren age 25 or under who plan to use the Club.

  5. For all categories of membership there are two periods of membership.

    1. A full season membership runs from January 1 through December 31.

    2. A half year membership runs from January 1 through July 31 or from August 1 through December 31, and includes an overlapping grace period of one week.

  6. The membership year runs from January 1 through December 31. Members must take an appropriate membership if they use the Club at any time during the spring or fall.

  7. Members not visiting Biddeford Pool during a calendar year who desire to maintain their Club membership may pay an "inactive membership” fee, an amount determined and posted by the Treasurer. This policy exempts the member from the initiation fee upon resuming active status. A member may not use Club facilities or attend social events while in the inactive status, even as a guest. Prolonged inactive memberships are subject to review by the Board of Governors.

  8. If a membership lapses, it must be renewed through a new application process and the payment of full initiation fees.

  9. Application for Membership:

    1. Sponsors of a prospective member must complete a membership form, available in the Pro Shop or from the President.

    2. To begin the process, a candidate must have proposing and seconding letters from either two Voting Members or one Voting Member and two Associate Members.

    3. The President will advise the sponsors of other necessary procedures, and of any missing paperwork. Sponsors should become familiar with their responsibilities, including introducing their candidate to all Governors and to as many Club members as possible. Sponsors should plan to elicit letters of endorsement from multiple members to demonstrate support from the membership at large.

    4. No Governor of the Club shall propose, second, or support a candidate in any way.

    5. No member may propose, second, or write a letter of support for more than one candidate in a calendar year.

    6. The Board votes on membership candidates once a year at the Spring Meeting.

    7. Sponsors of newly elected members are responsible for making them aware of rules of play and general expectations of the Club.
